I've always read about plus size bloggers who shop the straight sizes of a clothing brand. I've seen many divas of different body types wear straight sizes and rock the hell out of their outfit. I must admit, I tend to admire this notion from a distance assuming that I could never pull that off. After all, majority of the ladies that do this are between the sizes 12-16 (clearly not me). It wasn't until one of my favorite bloggers Chastity Garner of The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style posted a look in a unitard, that I realized that I might be able to get away with this. She looked AMAZING! And don't get it twisted, that unitard was 100% spandex yet her silhouette looked smooth as ever. If you haven't checked out that post, here it is.
I think I'm falling in love with the midi length body con dress and skirts. Or at least I love it on others (because this would be the first time that I would be trying this look). I Especially love it on shapely ladies. There is an understated sexiness about that fit. But you know how I fell about the body con... IT SCARES ME! lol but hey, I'm a women! I have the right to change my mind time to time.
This dress is from ASOS straight sizes. It is a jersey fabric so it really stretchy, its a size 14. (Quick tip: make sure you learn the fabric before buying straight sizes. Something like jersey or stretch knit may be more likely to fit, as it is stretcher than lets say, polyester or chiffon. When ordering skirts, get the deets about the waistband, ie: elastic or banded oppose to zipped or buttoned.) I love this print and I chose it because the busyness of the design would help camouflage my shortcomings (my mid section). This dress is very comfy. I will definitely be dressing it down or even pair it with flats in the future. Depending on how you may feel about your own shortcomings, I would say that this dress or other jersey dresses from ASOS (in a size 14) would fit up to a sizes 22w. I encourage you to take a look at the straight sizes and stores. It may take some patience and a little creativity but there are definitely some hidden gems on those racks. After all, THINGS STRETCH!
